Biometric authentication continues to be applied for air passengers

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) on December 25 issued a written report to the Ministry of Transport asking for its approval of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV)’s proposal to continue applying biometric authentication for air passengers.

Hanoi (VNA) - The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) onDecember 25 issued a written report to the Ministry of Transport asking for itsapproval of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV)’s proposal to continueapplying biometric authentication for air passengers.

To be authenticated biometrically, air passengers need to have a chip-based citizen identificationcard and a PNR (Passenger Name Record) reservation code, and agree to sharepersonal data and facial recognition information.

Meanwhile, check-in counters need to be equipped with chip-based ID card readersand facial recognition device.

In the first quarter of 2024, the ACV willcomplete the investment, equipment, ID card application software solutions andfull-process biometric authentication technology at Phu Bai and Cat Biinternational airports in central Thua Thien-Hue province and northern HaiPhong city, and Dien Bien airport in the northern mountainous province of thesame name./.

Binh Thuan ramps up measures to combat IUU fishing

According to the Binh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province has completed registration for all “three-no” fishing boats - vessels without registration, licences or monitoring systems - measuring six metres or more. About 2,710 such vessels have been registered, meeting 100% of the ministry’s requirements and 2,012 operational vessels have been fitted with VMS devices.

Vietnam, US hold 169th repatriation ceremony for American MIA servicemen

At the ceremony, Vietnam handed over four boxes containing remains recovered during recent joint excavations in Hue city, and Quang Tri and Kon Tum provinces. Preliminary forensic analysis on April 15 suggested the remains may belong to US MIAs and they will be sent to Hawaii for further identification.
