Brazilian-Vietnamese striker Huynh Kesley Alves of Becamex Binh Duong won the nation’s first golden shoe award for top goal scorer of the year at a ceremony in HCM City on Jan. 20.
Kesley, who was also recently granted Vietnamese citizenship, scored 17 goals in domestic, regional and international tournaments. He was presented with 15 million VND (777 USD) in prize money.
The 29-year-old striker, who was also the top scorer in the V-League in 2005 playing for Binh Duong, is married to a woman from HCM City .
Midfielder Hoang Dinh Tung of Thanh Hoa Cement (now Lam Son Thanh Hoa) won the silver shoe award after scoring 16 goals last year, while national team member Nguyen Vu Phong of Binh Duong won the bronze shoe for scoring 15 goals.
“This is the first time we have organised a ceremony to honour the top scorer in the national championship.
“We will make it an annual event for footballers from now on,” said Nguyen Minh Hung, vice chairman of HCM City Journalist Association’s Sport Reporters Club./.
