Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – The central province of Thua Thien-Hue needs a long-term development plan, in which major breakthroughs should be made to create an improvement to the local socio-economic situation, according to Chairman of the Economic Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Van Binh.
At a conference held on May 6 to review the implementation of the Politburo’s Conclusion No.48-KL/TW on the construction and development of Thua Thien-Hue and Hue city through 2020, Binh said that the Politburo will outline a new resolution to develop the province by 2030 with a vision until 2045, with specific targets and vision set in accordance with national and global situation.
The measures must fit local economic strengths and potential, helping it become a modern, green and smart urban area, he stressed.
Spanning an area of more than 5,000 square kilometres, the province is now a centre of culture, tourism, intensive healthcare, science-technology and high-quality human resources training.
In a bid to help the province take full the advantage of its strategic position in the central coastal region, with borderline with Laos, a location on the East-West Economic Corridor, and favouable transport conditions, the Politburo has issued Conclusion No.48/KL-TW, aiming to turn Thua Thien-Hue into a centrally-run city, and an international-and regional-level urban area by 2020.
After 10 years carrying out the conclusion, the province has reaped comprehensive achievements, greatly contributing to the development of the key economic zone in the central region and the country as a whole.
During 2009-2018, the province enjoyed an average annual economic growth of 7.16 percent, while the local gross domestic product increased 1.86 times, from 17.5 trillion VND (752 million USD) in 2009 to more than 32.7 trillion VND 10 years later. The per capita income was estimated at 1,794 USD in 2018, doubling the amount in 2009, and the figure is expected at 2,000 USD in 2020.-VNA
