Quang Ngai (VNA) – One hundred impoverished households in Tra Bong district in the central province of Quang Ngai have been presented with a breeding cow each to help with their livelihood.

The cows, worth a combined 1.5 billion VND (67,264 USD), are sponsored by the Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) in the framework of the “Bank of cows” project.

Le Ba Ho, one of the beneficiaries in the project from Tra Phu commune expressed his happiness to receive financial assistance to buy the cow, and promised to take well care of the cattle.

Sharing the joy with Ho, Ho Van Hai, 28, from Tra Son commune expressed his hope that the cow will reproduce and help him escape from debt.

The provincial Red Cross also provided farmers with technical assistance in raising the cows.

Chairman of the Tra Bong People’s Committee Nguyen Xuan Bac said the project has contributed significantly to the development of local herd and creating livelihood for local residents.

According to Dang Thi Minh Nguyet from the Vietnam Red Cross, since its launching in 2010, the project has funded 19,200 reproductive cows for 62 disadvantaged districts across the nation.
