Spanning across part of the Mekong River, the Laos-Myanmar Friendly Bridge was inaugurated in Lao Luangnamtha province on May 9, the first of its kind connecting the two Southeast Asian nations.
Addressing the event, Lao Vice State President and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith noted that the bridge is a symbol of productive cooperation between the two countries.
It will significantly contribute to the development of bilateral trade as well as regional ties, particularly among Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, and China, he said.
The bridge construction began in February 2013 and finished 5 months ahead of schedule. It is 691 metres in length and 8.5 metres in width with loading capacity of 75 tonnes.
The bridge links Laos’ Highway 17 and Myanmar’s Highway 4.-VNA
