Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen on January 14 attended a ceremony to start construction of the Long Binh – Chrey Thom bridge, linking Vietnam’s southern An Giang province and Kandal province in Cambodia.

The bridge has a total investment of over 38 million USD. Of which, the Vietnamese side has contributed 17.8 million USD. The remaining is covered by Cambodia using money borrowed from Vietnam.

Once operational, it will be the shortest route between Cambodia’s capital city Phnom Penh and Vietnam’s border.

The bridge is expected to facilitate economic and trade development between the two countries, while helping reduce the poverty rate in the border areas.

Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony, PM Dung hailed the coordination between the Ministry of Construction and the Cambodian side across different phases of during the survey, design and investment.

The two PMs asked relevant ministries and agencies to work closely together so that the bridge will be completed on schedule as it is a symbol of the comprehensive cooperation between the Vietnamese and Cambodian nations.-VNA
