The executive board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony on June 1 (the fifteenth day of the fourth lunar month) to celebrate Lord Buddha’s 2559th birth anniversary.

Speaking at the event, which was attended by Politburo Member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Le Hong Anh, Most Venerable Thich Duc Nghiep read a message of the Supreme Patriarch of the VBS, which highlighted the mission of bringing Buddhism to people in mountainous and island areas by the VBS’s monks and nuns.

With the establishment of the VBS branches in northern mountainous Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces, the VBS has chapters in all 63 provinces and cities.

On this occasion, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s HCM City chapter Vo Thi Dung extended her wishes of peace and happiness to all local Buddhist monks, nuns and followers.

She expressed hope that they will continue participating in social welfare activities, contributing to developing the city and the country at large.

On the day, similar celebrations were also organised in central Da Nang city and Thua Thien-Hue province.-VNA
