The National Institute of Burns will cooperate with international organisations to apply cell, stem cell, tissue technology and orthopedic surgery in treating burn patients, said Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien. 
 
The institute currently treats 7,000 patients every year, Le  Nam , Director of the Institute, told a national meeting on burns and orthopedic surgery in Hanoi on March 3. 
 
The institute is doing research and growing fibroblast, keratin cells and stem cells obtained from umbilical cords and umbilical membranes for the treatment of deep partial thickness burns, he said. 
 
Recently the institute successfully treated a patient with burns covering 90 percent of his body, he added.
 
Prof., Dr. Adrew Burd of the Pacific-Asia Burns Association and Ass. Prof. Phan Toan Thang of the   Singapore National University were among presenters reporting on new technologies applied in treating burns./.
