A workshop on business opportunities in Myanmar was held on May 3 in Ho Chi Minh City to introduce Vietnamese firms to the Southeast Asian country’s economic and business environment.
Held by the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC), the gathering was also a chance for the centre to announce a series of activities aimed at increasing trade exchange between the two countries, including a trade-tourism fair and a fact-finding trip to Myanmar.
Addressing the event, Myanmar’s honorary Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Dam Xuan Bac said that Myanmar ’s investment law has become more open for foreign investors, including a longer land lease term and a five-year exemption of corporate income.
It is a suitable time for Vietnamese businesses to enter the market, he said.
Two-way trade between Vietnam and Myanmar is expected to reach 500 million USD by 2015 while Vietnam’s investment in the country is hoped to be around 1 billion USD.
Last year, bilateral trade almost reached 230 million USD.-VNA
