Ca Mau 1 & 2 power plants have so far generated more than 10 billion kWh after their full operation more than a year ago.

The Ca Mau 1 power plant started its commercial operation on March 20, 2008, while the Ca Mau 2 began generating electricity on December 20 of the same year.

The operation of the two power plants, situated in Khanh An commune, U Minh district, the southernmost province of Ca Mau , helped ease the whole nation’s power shortage in the dry seasons in 2008 and 2009.

The power plants, with a combined capacity of 1,500 MW, is part of the Ca Mau Gas-Electricity-Fertiliser complex, built at a cost total of 883 million USD.

Each plant uses 700 cubic metres of gas per year, taken from the PM3 oil field offshore Vietnam and Malaysia and other oil fields in the south-western sea./.
