Hanoi (VNA) - High-tech agriculture is seen as the most attractive industry in the Central Highlands for local and foreign investors.

The government's action programme to implement Resolution No.23-NQ/TW on the direction of socioeconomic development and national defense in the Central Highlands will result in some new breakthroughs, said the Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Duy Dong at the onset of the conference on November 20.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) was assigned by the government to coordinate with ministries, sectors, and localities to organise a conference to announce the government's action plan on implementing the resolution from the Politburo dated October 6.

Deputy Minister Dong emphasised that the conference is vital for the development of the region and will open up new opportunities.

"With the theme of Green - Harmonious - Sustainable Development, the conference will be held in Da Lat city under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and receive about 500 delegates," said Dong.

He added that this is a three-in-one conference, announcing the government's action plan on implementing Resolution No.23-NQ/TW. The conference also calls for the attention of investors, domestic and international business associations, and development partners to assist government in implementing investment projects for the socioeconomic development of the region.

"The Central Highlands has serious potential and many advantages, especially in terms of climate and soil. However, it has yet to build agricultural brands and gain much added value," highlighted the MPI deputy minister.

On that basis, Resolution No.23-NQ-TW focuses on developing hi-tech agriculture in the Central Highlands. It is also an opportunity to attract domestic and foreign investors to large-scale agricultural projects, apply technology, and build some brands.

Additionally, the Central Highlands has great potential for renewable energy, particularly solar and wind energy and bauxite mining.

"We can attract investors in the field of high-quality aluminum processing, sustainable bauxite exploitation, and environmental protection. Medicinal herbs are also a promising sector for investors as the soil here is so rich, especially under the forest canopy," Dong went on to say.

To implement the resolution, the government plans to propose seven groups of key tasks, including promoting a consensus on building action plans, developing fast and sustainable regional economic development, boosting human resources, and improving the material and spiritual lives of the people.

In addition, the government's action programme has also set out 23 specific tasks and nine transport projects that will be assigned to ministries and agencies to implement.

At the upcoming conference, a ceremony was held to award a cooperation agreement on sustainable development in the Central Highlands between the MPI and development partners. An MoU and investment registration certificates for investors will also take place, allowing millions of dollars to be poured in the region soon.

The Government has planned to invest a total capital of VNĐ1.25 trillion (54.3 million USD) to three large projects in the Central Highlands region, focusing on agricultural production, wood processing and real estate.

Deputy Minister Dong said: "Compared to other economic regions, the 1.25 trillion VND investment sum is not large, but compared to the Central Highlands region in previous years, the number is very respectable."

Also in the resolution, nine important transport projects in the Central Highlands region from 2030 to 2045 will be invested, including five important road projects, namely Quy Nhon – Pleiku, Khanh Hoa – Buon Me Thuot, Tan Phu – Bao Loc, Bao Loc – Lien Khuong and Gia Nghia – Nhon Trach.

The investment would help the Central Highlands connect with other key economic regions, especially the south-central economic region, and to help the Central Highlands develop tourism in the coming time, Deputy Minister Dong noted./.
