Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung has inaugurated a newly-built passenger terminal of the Cam Ranh airport in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa on Dec. 12.

The new terminal was built on an area of nearly 14,000 sq. m at a cost of 200 billion VND (10.8 million USD).

It is designed to handle maximum 800 passengers per rush hour.

According to the government-approved plan to develop the Cam Ranh International Airport through 2020 with vision for 2030, around 10.5 trillion VND will be raised to upgrade the airport, which will be capable of receiving 27 airplanes at the rush hour, handle 100,000 tonnes of cargo and 5.5 million passengers per year, by 2020.

The airport is also expected to be capable of handling 37 airplanes, 200,000 tonnes of cargo and 8 million passengers by 2030.

On the same day, the airport welcomed its first international flight from Singapore. Some airlines from Russia are seeking ways to open new flights from Russia to Cam Ranh in early 2010./.
