A series of measures have recently been announced by the Cambodian government, aimed at giving strength to the recovery of the country’s tourism sector.

Among other strategies, the government will continue a tourist marketing campaign called “Cambodia: Marvellous Kingdom” via international media, and accelerate promotion activities through Cambodian diplomatic representative agencies abroad, San Promonea, Undersecretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism said.

The government is also undertaking negotiations with Southeast Asian and Asian countries in hope of opening direct air routes for visitors, he added.

In the last six months of the year and next year, the Tourism Ministry will coordinate with the private sector to introduce “soft tour packages” to lure more international visitors.

The ministry will also consider investing in eco-tourism and healthcare tourism in an effort to diversify forms of tourist.

A report made by the ministry said that the number of tourists to Cambodia in June reached nearly 141,000, an increase of 7.5 percent over the same period of the last year./.
