Hanoi (VNA) - Cambodian police on March 12 arrested 100 Chinese people suspected of running a telecoms scam to defraud victims in China.

Cambodia’s Immigration Investigation Bureau said that police arrested 81 Chinese men and 19 women in a raid at a seven-storey condominium in the capital city of Phnom Penh.

China has for years been battling telecoms fraud, which caused losses worth billions of USD to victims. As of May 2017, there were 32 provincial and 206 municipal fraud prevention centres across the country.

Thousands of Chinese suspects of telecoms fraud were caught in many countries, including Cambodia, Kenya and Armenia.-VNA
