Cambodia has started the construction of the final section of national road No. 1 which links Phnom Penh to the Vietnamese border.
The 42-km section, which runs from the Nek Loeung ferry crossing to the capital city of Phnom Penh , is being built with an investment of 42 million USD jointly funded by the Cambodian government and Japan . It is expected to be completed within a year.
While addressing the groundbreaking ceremony on Jan. 5, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that once the road is opened to traffic, it will meet the growing demand for efficient transport links between Cambodia and Vietnam .
The road will also create an economic corridor which will assist Cambodia’s national development programme, PM Hun Sen added.
