Phnom Penh (VNA) – Cambodia held a ceremony in Phnom Penh on November 9 to celebrate the 64th anniversary of the country’s independence from France.

The event saw the participation of Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, President of the Senate Samdech Say Chhum, President of National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen, among others.

At the ceremony, King Norodom Sihamoni laid flowers and lit up the victory torch at the Independence Monument.

Under of the rule of late King Norodom Sihanouk and current King Norodom Sihamoni as well as the Royal Government, Cambodian people have gained many great achievements in all fields, improving locals’ living conditions and expanding its foreign relations. The country’s position and prestige of in the world arena have been enhanced, while its economic ties with the world have been extended.

With a growth of about 7 percent, Cambodia has become one of the countries with stable economic growth in the region. The Cambodian Government targets to become a middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income one by 2050.

The country’s strengths include garment and textiles, tourism, construction, agriculture and services.-VNA
