Cambodian and Chinese top diplomats on August 21 pledged to maintain and further boost bilateral ties and cooperation for the mutual benefits of the two countries and peoples.

The pledge was made during an August 21 talk between Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Phnom Penh.

Speaking at a joint press conference after the talk, Wang said the ties between Cambodia and China have been profoundly strengthened and developed day by day since the establishment of their ties in 1958.

He also offered his congratulations to the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) for its victory in the general election last month and hoped that Cambodian political parties would solve remaining problems relating to the poll peacefully.

For his part, Hor Namhong said the Chinese FM’s Cambodia visit took place on time to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties and the 2013 Cambodia-China Year of Friendship.

He added that at Wang's invitations, he would attend the ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting slated for August 28-30 in China to strengthen and expand the strategic partnership of cooperation between ASEAN and China.

Cambodia and China have witnessed rapid development of the bilateral relations in the last decade. China is now the leading investor in the country with total investment reaching 9.17 billion USD from 1994 to 2012, reported the Council for Development of Cambodia.-VNA
