Head of the ministry’s Production and Veterinary Department Chau Phon said that Cambodian authorities began a mass culling of chickens and ducks and sterilisation of farms in Kaoh Andaet district of Takeo province, which was hit hard by the H5N1 virus.
So far there have been no signs of human infection from the infected chickens and ducks, the official said, adding that Cambodian authorities have warned people in Kaoh Andaet district to rush to the nearest hospital and report to the Ministry of Health if their body temperature rises over 38 degrees Celsius.
According to Chau Phon, at least seven Cambodians have died from the disease since its first reported outbreak in 2005./.
