Phnom Penh (VNA) – The numbers of new COVID-19 cases and deaths in Cambodia have shown no sign of slowing down recently, with continued growth in infections outside Phnom Penh capital and imported cases.

The Cambodian Ministry of Health on June 28 announced 883 new COVID-19 infections, including 135 imported cases, and 16 deaths recorded in 24 hours, according to the Khmer Times newspaper.

As of June 28, the country has posted 48,532 infection cases, with 42,764 recoveries and 556 related fatalities.

The same day, one million doses of the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine that Cambodia had ordered from China arrived at Phnom Penh International Airport.

So far, Cambodia has received more than 11 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 342,000 doses of AstraZeneca under the COVAX Facility and the rest being Sinopharm and Sinovac from China.

Permanent Secretary of State for Economy and Finance Vongsey Vissoth said the country will receive the planned 20 million doses of vaccines by the end of this August./.
