Hanoi (VNA) – Clean water is being distributed to residents in drought-hit areas across Cambodia.

Mao Chanmathurith, the police chief of the southwestern province of Kampot, said the operation is being carried out by the Government and military police to deliver clean water to more than 500 families in Andoung Khmer commune.

Provincial Governor Chan Chesda ordered clean water delivery to residents in eight districts and towns. Water will continue to be provided until people have enough water to drink and cook food, he said.

The administration in the northwestern province of Siem Reap also distributed clean water to more than 1,600 families in three districts and towns facing water shortages. It will continue providing water for other drought-affected areas.

Meanwhile, residents in Mongkol Borei district of Banteay Meanchey province are also experiencing serious water scarcity.

Sy Dy, the district police chief, said local wells and ponds have dried up, forcing people to spend 40,000 riel (10 USD) on buying a 2,000-litre tank of water.

He added that they also requested water sourced from nearby Battambang province.-VNA
