Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has said that nearly 20,000 security personnel will be deployed in Phnom Penh to maintain order during the Water Festival, which will take place from November 10-12.

The PM made the statement while in Thailand to attend 35th ASEAN Summit.

Apart from calling on Cambodians and tourists to enjoy the festival, he suggested Cambodian people to prepare ambok (flattened rice), ripe bananas and green coconut, which are special products featuring the Cambodian culture.

According to the National Committee for Organising National and International Festivals of Cambodia, about 50,000 oarsmen across the country will participate in this year’s race within the framework of the event.

Bon Om Touk Bon is one of biggest festivals of Cambodia.  It is to mark the end of the rainy season. The highlight of the event is a large-scale boat race. On this occasion, Cambodians traditionally offer farm produce they made to thank the Moon god for bumper crops and to pray for better harvests in the future./.
