Cambodia and the European Union have signed a cooperation agreement on combating the illegal trafficking, transport, and use of nuclear weapons and radioactive materials.

The deal was inked on November 6 by Om Yin Tieng, senior Minister of the Cambodian National Counter-Terrorism Committee, and the EU Ambassador to Cambodia Jean François Cautain.

The EU will subsequently provide Cambodia with equipment to detect the transport of nuclear materials and weapons.

Detection machines will be installed in key cross border check points, including the Phnom Penh and Siem Reap International Airports and river and sea ports.

Cautain said that the agreement will help prevent the activities of trans-national criminals and terrorists, and help ensure security and peace in Southeast Asia and the world.-VNA
