The people of Cambodia will always remember and be deeply grateful for Cambodian revolutionary soldiers and Vietnamese volunteers’ sacrifice to revive the country, said a Phrocheachon newspaper editorial.

The newspaper, the mouthpiece of the ruling Cambodia People’s Party (CPP), printed the editorial on the 34th anniversary of Pol Pot’s overthrow (January 7, 1979-2013).

The editorial affirmed it was a great triumph in the nation’s history, and laid a foundation for the country’s future achievements.

It stressed that January 7, 1979, was a historic victory that liberated the Cambodian people from the genocidal Pol Pot regime (1975-1979).

Under the leadership of Chea Sim, Heng Samrin and Hun Sen, and the timely assistance of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, the army of the Cambodian United Front for National Salvation overthrew the murderous regime, reviving the Cambodian country and people.

According to the editorial, over the past 34 years, Cambodia has rejuvenated and continued to comprehensively develop in all areas.

In addition, the country has accomplished regional and international integration. Its role and prestige have improved in the international arena, especially in its position of the 2012 ASEAN Chair and its organisation of two ASEAN Summits, it said.-VNA
