Cambodian people and authorities in the northeastern province of Rattanakiri have commended Vietnam ’s young voluntary doctors on their humanitarian medical examination and treatment for poor patients in the province.

The Khmer Post newspaper on August 11 described the happiness of the locals in Oyadao, Bo Keo and Ondong Meas districts when they received 39 Vietnamese doctors and quoted them as saying that the activity is considered a symbol of friendship and mutual assistance between the two peoples.

The article also recalled the country’s historical floods in late 2009, where Vietnamese miltary helicopters dropped relief food to save hundreds of people in Oyadao and Bo Keo districts from the natural disaster.

The Vietnamese doctors’ free medical checks-up and treatment in Rattanakiri province are part of a Vietnamese social and business organisations humanitarian programme which began on August 9 and will wind up at the end of the month.

Vietnamese medical delegations are scheduled to continue similar activities and also present gifts to poor patients in Cambodia ’s Kompong Speu, Kompong Chhnang and Siem Reap provinces./.
