Cambodia has set up 89 district-level immigration management agencies across the country in a bid to step up inspections of illegal immigrants.
Cambodia has set up 89 district-level immigration management agenciesacross the country in a bid to step up inspections of illegalimmigrants.

Head of the Cambodian Interior Ministry’simmigration department General Sok Phal said on July 21 that thedecision of the Cambodian Government aims to facilitate local levelimmigration management rather than depending entirely onprovincial-level agencies as in the past.

The agencies will beresponsible for inspecting, classifying and managing unlawful immigrantsand ensuring safety for foreigners in Cambodia.

The CambodianGovernment has recently intensified inspection campaigns for migrantworkers and unauthorised immigrants. In the first six months of thisyear, the country’s authorities detected and deported 1,200 illegalimmigrants from various countries.-VNA
