The 5th Cambodia International Textile & Garment Industry Exhibition kicked off in Phnom Penh on August 21.

The four-day exhibition features 300 booths run by over 100 foreign enterprises from 23 countries and territories worldwide including Vietnam, Japan, Belarus, China and Thailand.

On display are garment and textile machinery – spinning, yarn processing, weaving, steaming, knitting and cloth, embroidery equipment and winding – alongside construction materials and medical and agricultural equipment.

It is a good opportunity for the Cambodian textile and garment sector to learn the latest techniques and technologies and seek international partnership.

Textiles and garments have been a key export of Cambodia over the past years, contributing two-thirds of the country’s exports and helping create substantial employment opportunities for local residents.

The Southeast Asian country now has more than 1,000 apparel and footwear factories employing about 700,000 Cambodian workers.

It shipped 3 billion USD worth of textile and garment products abroad in the first half of this year, up 9 percent annually.-VNA
