Phnom Penh (VNA) –
Senate President and acting head of state Samdech Say Chhum has signed a Penal Code amendment that punishes anyone for insulting the King.

The amendment, which was signed on March 3, states that insulting the King shall be punished with imprisonment from one to five years and a fine from 500 USD to 2,500 USD.

The law was approved by the government on February 2, by the National Assembly on February 14, and by the Senate on February 27 before submitting to the King for ratification.-VNA
