Phnom Penh (VNA) - A ceremony marking the 40th founding anniversary of the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation (KUFNS) (December 2), now the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodia Motherland (SFDCM), was held in Snoul district of Kratie province on December 2.

The event was attended by President of the Cambodian National Assembly (NA) Samdech Heng Samrin, who is also Honorary Chair of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and Chair of the SFDCM National Council; CPP President and Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen; representatives from the Cambodian NA and Government; and about 30,000 Cambodian people from all walks of life.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Vu Quang Minh and representatives of several foreign embassies in Cambodia also attended the ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Heng Samrin said the ceremony is organised in the spirit of gratitude for great contributions made by Cambodian heroic officers and soldiers, and Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the struggle against the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime.

The army of the newly-born KUFNS, with the support of Cambodian people of all strata and especially the great, timely and effective assistance of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, overthrew the genocidal regime to lead the country to a glorious victory on January 7, 1979, he said.

He also highlighted the great achievements of his country in recent times, including its economic growth of 7 percent in many years.

Under the leadership of CPP, Cambodia has ensured stability, peace, and development across fields as well as enhanced solidarity, friendship and cooperation with many countries in the region and the world, he stressed.
