Cambodian Senior Minister in charge of border affairs Var Kimhong unveiled the official map that the Royal Government of Cambodia has been using in border demarcation and marker planting with Vietnam on July 2.
At a press conference at the headquarters of the Council of Ministers, Var Kimhong stressed that the Cambodian Border Committee is planting markers along the two countries’ border based on the map recognised by the United Nations in 1964.
He added the disclosure of this map was decided upon by Prime Minister Hun Sen to satisfy the opposition party and end ambiguity and imagination.
Analysts said the revelation of the official map used in border negotiations with Vietnam was related to a meeting of the countries’ Joint Border Commission scheduled to be held in Cambodia’s Siem Reap province from July 6-8.-VNA
