Cambodia returns air traffic control to Thailand

handed over the management of the country's air traffic control company
to its new Thai owners, according to the company’s parent company the
Samart Corporation.

This is considered a gesture of goodwill from Cambodia in an effort to reduce diplomatic tensions between Bangkok and Phnom Penh.
The control of Cambodia’s Air Traffic Services, or CATS, was disrupted in November 2009 after Cambodia arrested a Thai engineer, Siwarak Chutipong, on spying charges. He was accused of stealing the flight schedule of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra who was visiting Cambodia as an economic advisor to PM Hun Sen.
Other Thai employees at the company were barred from coming to its offices but not penalised.
The statement by Samart quoted its president, Watchai Vilailuck, as welcoming Cambodia ’s decision, saying that it shows that Cambodia is open and fair to the foreign businesses and can win investors’ confidence in the long-term.
It said that Samart won a concession to operate CATS for 32 years in 2001./.
