Parliamentarians of the Cambodia People’s Party (CPP) has strongly criticised President of Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Sam Rainsy’s trip to United States and Europe to urge Western countries to cut aids and not to recognise Hun Sen’s newly formed government.
A local webpage on October 9 quoted Cheam Yeap, Chairman of the Cambodian Parliament’s Commission on Economics, Finance and Banking as saying that Rainsy’s action will cause serious effects on the country’s economy and development.
In the context that Cambodia is facing economic and calamity challenges, Rainsy’s acts run counter to Cambodian’s interests, according to Cambodian public opinion.
Cheam Yeap also stated that Rainsy’s collection of petitions with fingerprints as evidence against the new government to send to the United Nations is meaningless. As a matter of fact, the CPP works in accordance with the Cambodian law, constitution and the King’s edict.
The CPP has also received strong support from majority Cambodian people.-VNA
