Cambodia’s tourism sector has set a target of serving 8 million foreign arrivals and earning more than 5 billion USD in revenue by 2020.

To that end, the Tourism Ministry is carrying out a lot of policies to improve the industry services and develop more products, with the focus on traditional trade villages and eco-tourism.

Training courses are being organised in order to raise the capacity of the sector’s staff.

The country is also upgrading its infrastructure and opening more direct flights to countries and regions where their holidaymakers to Cambodia are on the rise, including China and member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Cambodia welcomed 1.27 million foreign visitors in the first quarter of 2014, representing a year-on-year rise of 8 percent.

During the January-March period, Vietnam topped the chart among the top ten markets of tourists to Cambodia with 189,800 arrivals, up 4 percent from the same period last year.

Tourism is one of the four sectors supporting Cambodia’s economy. The country received 4.2 million foreigners in 2013, earning 2.5 billion USD.

It is expected to greet 4.7 million international visitors this year.-VNA
