The construction of the 50-million-USD plant is expected to kick-start in the first quarter of 2015, on an area of 30 ha and with a designed capacity of around 400-600 tonnes per day.

The factory will be capable of producing about 100,000 tonnes per year in the first phase, 70 percent of which is destined for foreign markets.

According to Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), Cambodia produced about 120,000 tonnes of grain in the first four months of 2014, a year-on-year rise of 1.5 percent.

Last year, the country harvested about 9.4 million tonnes of rice with around 378,000 tonnes being sold abroad.

The Government has set a target of shipping 1 million tonnes by 2015./.
