Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to intensify cooperation for security and peace along their shared boder, Cambodian Defence Minister Tea Bank has said.

At a press conference announcing the outcomes of his talks with his Thai counterpart Prawit Wongsuwan and the 10 th meeting of the General Border Committee in Phnom Penh on December 24, Tea Bank stated that the two sides will step up collaboration in preventing drug and human trafficking, labour exploitation, illegal deforestation and all kinds of cross-border crimes.

In addition, the countries also vowed to join hands in fighting terrorism and weapon smuggling, he added.

The two ministers pledged to create more jobs for residents living along the border through facilitating trade and promoting the establishment of special economic zones in frontier provinces.

Thai Defence Minister Prawit is on a two-day visit to Cambodia to promote bilateral defence cooperation. He plans to pay a courtesy visit to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on December 25./.
