Cambodia is going to host the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) from June 16 to 27, said a press release from the Press and Quick Reaction Unit of the Council of Ministers of Cambodia.

Cambodia is the fourth Asian country, which has been elected as host of the WHC session, the Cambodian News Agency (AKP) quoted the press release as saying.

The event will be held in Phnom Penh at the Peace Palace while the closing ceremony will take place in Angkor , the press release said.

Around 1,300 delegates from more than 120 member states to the 1972 UNESCO Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage will attend this universal event.

The World Heritage List includes 962 properties forming part of the cultural and natural heritage which the WHC considers as having outstanding universal value.

According to the press release, during the upcoming meeting, the Committee will identify, on the basis of nomination dossiers submitted by State Parties, cultural and natural properties of Outstanding Universal Value which are to be listed (those listed properties will get necessary protection under the Convention).

It will also review the state of conservation of properties inscribed on the World Heritage List, in collaboration with concerned State Parties, and decide which properties need to be placed in the World Heritage List in Danger or to be removed from the World Heritage List, and examine International Assistance requests managed by the World Heritage Fund.-VNA
