The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) has the largest number of candidates standing for election in the second council polls at all levels, according to the country’s National Election Committee.

The organisation said that from February 27 to March 3, members from four political parties including the CPP, Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), National United Front for an Independent, Neutral, Peaceful and Cooperative Cambodia (FUNCINPEC), and the League for Democracy Party registered for the elections.

The elections will be held on May 18 to select 3,324 council members, up 70 people from the first tenure as Cambodia has established one more province and three new districts in the capital Phnom Penh.-VNA
