Cambodian law-makers pass vote for NEC independence

The Cambodian National Assembly approved the amendment of the Constitution to make the National Election Committee (NEC) a constitutionally mandated and independent body on October 1.
The Cambodian National Assembly approved the amendment of the Constitution to make the National Election Committee (NEC) a constitutionally mandated and independent body on October 1.

According to the bill, the new NEC comprises nine members and has a five-year term.

120 out of 123 law-makers attended the vote. Both the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and the President of the oppositional Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Sam Rainsy participated in the session.-VNA
