Beijing (VNA) – Cambodia’s national flag carrier Cambodia Angkor Air (CAA) on December 16 commenced direct flights between the Cambodian northwestern province of Siem Reap and China’s Beijing.

The first flight left the Siem Reap international airport to Beijing at 19:35 (local time) on the same day, said Eng Molina, CAA’s marketing manager.

The CAA will operate three flights a week and use Airbus A320 with 180 seats on the route, the airline said in a press release.

The new service to Beijing is the CAA’s fifth regular schedule flight to China, following routes between Phnom Penh/Siem Reap to Guangzhou and Shanghai.

The move aims to respond to the rapid growth of Chinese tourists to Cambodia and make it easy for Beijing travellers to visit Siem Reap province, home to the well-known Angkor Wat.

China is Cambodia’s second largest source of foreign tourists. In the first ten months of 2016, Cambodia welcomed over 653,000 Chinese visitors, up 14 percent against the same period last year.-VNA
