Cambodian officials extend New Year greetings to Long An

Officials from the Cambodian provinces of Svay Rieng and Pray Veng visited Vietnam’s southern province of Long An on January 29, on the occasion of the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) festival.
Long An (VNA) – Officials from theCambodian provinces of Svay Rieng and Pray Veng visited Vietnam’s southernprovince of Long An on January 29, on the occasion of the upcoming Tet (LunarNew Year) festival.

Svay Rieng’s Governor Men Vibol and Chairman of Pray Veng’s Council Sbong SaRatextended their New Year greetings to the Party Committee, authorities, andpeople of Long An province.

They lauded the achievements the Vietnamese locality recorded in 2018 andexpressed their wish that the solidarity and friendship between the twocountries, and especially amongst provinces which share a common border line,will be tightened.

Tran Van Can, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Long An province, also expressedhis hope that the localities will continue to cooperate effectively in 2019 andthe years to come, especially in border trade and services.

He called for joint efforts in accelerating border demarcation and markerplanting, thus building a common border line of peace, friendship, and mutualdevelopment.

In 2018, Long An and the two Cambodian provinces worked hard to deepen thetraditional friendship and cooperation, contributing to spurring localsocio-economic development.

Long An’s economy grew by 10.36 percent and its annual per capita incomereached 68.62 million VND (2,968 USD). Progress has also been made in socialwelfare, national security and defence, and external affairs.

In early 2019, Long An held many activities to mark the 40th anniversary of thevictory of the southwestern border safeguarding war as well as theVietnam-Cambodia joint victory over the Pol Pot genocidal regime (January 7).-VNA

Man prosecuted for abuse of freedom, democracy rights

Truong Huy San, 64, residing in Ho Chi Minh City, has been prosecuted for “abusing the rights to freedom and democracy to violate interests of the State, rights and legitimate interests of organisations and individuals” under Article 331 of the Penal Code.

OVs in Thailand preserve cultural legacy

The Vietnamese community in Sakaeo province, Thailand has maintained traditional practices, from wearing Ao dai (traditional long dress) during major celebrations to preserving authentic cooking methods, heard a recent meeting between Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Viet Hung and the overseas Vietnamese (OV) as part of the diplomat’s visit to the locality.

Dien Bien provides training for northern Lao cadres
