A delegation from the Cambodian provinces of Svay Rieng and Prey Veng made a New Year visit to the Mekong Delta province of Long An on January 17.

At a meeting with Long An officials, Svay Rieng Governor Chieng Am extended New Year greetings to the provincial Party leaders, people’s committee leaders and people.

Chairman of provincial People’s Committee Do Huu Lam said the comprehensive cooperation agreement signed between Long An and the two Cambodian provinces in 2013 have lifted their traditional ties to new heights.

A range of activities, including the setting up of twin relationship between border communes and the organisation of people-to-people exchanges, have strengthened the mutual understanding and solidarity between the two peoples, and facilitated the border demarcation and marker planting as well as the search for and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Cambodia during wartime.

The chairman also recalled the victory over Pol Pot’s genocidal regime 35 years ago, the struggle to revive Cambodia in the aftermath and the solidarity and friendship between the two countries that has developed since then.

For his part, Chieng Am thanked Long An province for its support in infrastructure upgrade, health care and personnel training.

He said he believes that, in the coming time, the three provinces will further their comprehensive relations in all areas, effectively implementing the policies defined by the governments of the two countries.-VNA
