Hun Sen, 61, on September 24 was sworn in as Cambodian Prime Minister for another five-year term after the National Assembly re-elected him as the Government leader.

The premier, along with his newly-approved cabinet members, took an oath at the Royal Palace under the auspices of King Norodom Sihamoni.

The new Cabinet lineup includes nine deputy prime ministers and 27 ministers. In addition, 15 senior ministers, 13 special envoys to the Prime Minister and a Secretary of State in charge of civil aviation were also appointed to the new administration.

Earlier on the same day, lawmakers unanimously re-elected Honorary President of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Heng Samrin, 79, as President of the Cambodian National Assembly in the new tenure.

Nguon Nhel and Khuon Sodary retained their respective positions in the National Assembly as the first and second Vice Presidents.

Cambodia held a general election on July 28. The results showed that the ruling CPP of Prime Minister Hun Sen won 68 out of the 123 parliamentary seats and the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) of opposition leader Sam Rainsy got 55 seats.

The opposition refused to accept the outcome and boycotted the opening session of the fifth legislature of the National Assembly under the patronage of King Norodom Sihamoni on September 23.

Speaking after a parliamentary session on September 24, Prime Minister Hun Sen said that the door was still open for the opposition party to talk for some parliament leadership positions.-VNA
