Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has agreed to meet with President of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) Sam Rainsy on January 2 to discuss election reforms.
The information was announced by Government spokesman and Information Minister Khieu Kanharith as he met reporters on December 30.
Although Sam Rainsy intends to raise the issue of workers’ salary at the meeting, the PM wants to focus only on the reforms of the National Election Committee (NEC) and elections.
PM Hun Sen and Sam Rainsy had two talks on September 16 and 17 under the chair of King Norodom Sihamoni following the July’s election.
Also December 30, Cambodian National Assembly first vice president Nguon Nhel said the NA will report to the King, NEC and the Constitutional Council on the three-month absence of the 55 CNRP parliamentarians.
The absence of CNRP parliamentarians from the first NA meeting and the oath-taking ceremony is enough for them to be deprived of their seats, he stressed.
The division of the 55 CNRP seats to parties taking part in the election will be done by NEC and the Constitutional Council pursuant to Article 53 of the country’s constitution.-VNA
