Preliminary results of the 2013 Cambodia Intercensal Population Survey (CIPS) shows the Cambodian population has reached 14.68 million, up some 9 percent from 13.4 million in 2008.

“Males account for 7.12 million of the total population, and females 7.56 million”, Cambodia’s news agency AKP quoted Minister of Planning Chhay Than as saying at a ceremony to release the preliminary results in Phnom Penh on August 15.

The urban population makes up 21.44 percent of the total population, up from 19.51 percent in 2008, he added.

According to the survey, 3.1 million people reside in urban areas, while the rest live in rural areas.

This survey provides updated data on population size and growth, for the preparation of strategic plans for social and economic development in the future, said Chhay Than.-VNA
