Cambodian Prince Norodom Ranariddh, son of late King Norodom Sihanouk, announced on March 16 that he will form a new party named “The Community of Royalist People” to contest in the 2018's general election.

In his press release after a meeting with 300 supporters, the 70-year-old prince said the goal of the party is to gather royalists and those following the free nationalism to address the country’s issues, protect territorial sovereignty and boost the national development.

Supporters have agreed to elect Prince Ranariddh as the President of the new party.

The prince said he will submit a dossier for the establishment of the party to the Ministry of Interior for approval on March 17.

Prince Ranariddh is currently the President of the Supreme Privy Advisory Council to King Norodom Sihamoni. He once served as honorary prime minister and president of the National Assembly of Cambodia.
