Cambodian Senate elects new First Vice President

Senator Sim Ka, a member of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Central Committee, has been elected as First Vice President of the Cambodian Senate, replacing Ney Pena who passed away on September 29.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Senator Sim Ka, a member of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Central Committee, has been elected as First Vice President of the Cambodian Senate, replacing Ney Pena who passed away on September 29.

Sim Ka won the favour of 58 senators at an extraordinary held by the fourth Senate on October 11 and presided over by its President Samdech Say Chhum.

The Senate also recognised Kong Saothun as a new senator of constituency No. 5, encompassing the provinces of Takeo, Kampot and Kep, replacing Nay Pena. 

Cambodia’s fourth Senate has 62 seats with 58 claimed by the CPP. Two seats were appointed by King Norodom Sihamoni and the rest two were selected by the National Assembly.

A term of the Senate lasts for six years. The body is in charge of giving decisions on National Assembly’s legal documents before submitting them to the King for approval.-VNA
