Hanoi (VNA) – President of the Cambodia Senate Say Chhum left Hanoi on December 17, concluding his three-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

During his stay in Vietnam, the Cambodian Senate President held talks with NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and paid courtesy visits to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Truong Tan Sang. He also met with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Vice NA Chairman Huynh Ngoc Son, who is also President of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Parliamentarians Group.

At the meetings, the two sides reached consensus on a range of important contents regarding the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries’ law-making bodies.

The two sides expressed their delight at the fruitful legislative ties, as evidenced by regular exchanges of delegations at all levels and experience, cooperation in personnel training, and their mutual support at regional and international parliamentary arenas such as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

In the spirit of the traditional friendship and fine collaboration, the two sides agreed to increase all-level delegation exchanges and mutual support at parliamentary forums.

The two legislative bodies will promote their role in supervising the realisation of agreements reached by the two Governments, especially those relating to cooperation in border demarcation and marker planting, as well as in economics, trade, investment, culture-education and national defence.

Vietnam will provide more technical and personnel training assistance for the Cambodian legislature while educating the two countries’ people, especially the youth, about the traditional solidarity and friendship.

The two sides also agreed to continue consulting each other about global issues of shared concern.-VNA
