The Cambodian Ministry of Commerce said on March 19 that the US and countries from the European Union and Asia, especially Japan, China and the Republic of Korea, are major importers of the country’s garments, textiles and footwear.

As a spearhead industry with about 900 factories and more than 600,000 workers, garments and textiles make up over 80 percent of Cambodia’s total export value, according to the ministry.

Ly Tek Hung, Managing Director of the Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia, said the growth is low due to a nationwide strike held by garment workers demanding higher wages earlier this year.

He expressed his belief that the sector will post higher growth in the coming time.-VNA
