Cambodia exported 146,800 tonnes of milled rice in the first five months of 2013, up by 126 percent against the same period last year.

Key importers of Cambodia’s rice are France, Poland, Thailand, Malaysia and China, according to the country’s office for facilitating milled rice exports.

The director of the office Hean Vanhorn, attributed the strong rise to the country’s rice export encouragement policies as well as the increasing demand from the international market.

He said his country may reach the target of shipping 1 million tonnes of milled rice by 2015.

Last year, Cambodia exported nearly 206,000 tonnes of milled rice, a year-on-year increase of 2 percent.-VNA
