The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) held a meeting at its headquarters in Phnom Penh on June 28 to mark the 64th anniversary of its founding (June 28, 1951-2015).

The meeting saw the attendance of the Cambodian Prime Minister and CPP President Hun Sen; the President of Cambodia’s National Assembly and CPP Honorary President Heng Samrin; and Prince Norodom Ranaridhh, President of the FUNCIPEC Party, as well as a crowd of over 10,000.

Speaking at the event, Hun Sen said the CPP and Cambodian people had overcome various hardships and had brought about a number of historic achievements over the past 64 years, especially the victory over the Khmer Rouge’s genocidal regime in January 1979.

Since then, the party has led the country overcome various difficulties and challenges, and promoted the cause of national construction and defence. The party also played an important role in the peace-making process and national reconciliation, he added.

The CPP continues to work towards its goals in an effort to build a stable, peaceful and prosperous country, Hun Sen said.-VNA
