Over the past five years, Vinh Thanh district in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho has seen a significant decline in the number of reported crimes among the Catholic community.

Local police have coordinated closely with Catholic followers to successfully implement the model of “Three-no: no crime, no drug and no prostitution” in the district’s parishes, a meeting heard in Vinh Thanh on July 4.

Following a maxim of leading a good life, respecting God and loving the country, 98 percent of Catholic households in the district have been officially recognised as model families by local authorities.

Vinh Thanh district is home to about 46,000 Catholics, who belong to the Long Xuyen Diocese.-VNA
